“FEA proved that my condition was related to work. This entitled me to medical benefits and seven years of lost wages. FEA also obtained disability retirement and SSD benefits for me.”

Disability Options

Federal Workers’ Compensation
Disability Retirement Income
Schedule Award
Social Security Disability
VA Benefits

As a federal worker you may have entitlement to some, or possibly even all, of the benefits listed above.  It is important to check with an attorney to determine which benefits can be received in concert or along with other benefits.

Your disability retirement income is administered through the Office of Personnel Management (OPM).  Federal employees that began working after January 1, 1984 are enrolled in the Federal Employees Retirement System (FERS).  Federal employees that began working for the federal government prior to 1984 are enrolled in the Civil Service Retirement System (CSRS).  Both programs are for people that can no longer work for any health related reason.

If your claim for Disability Retirement Income has been denied for any reason, we will challenge it for you.

If you would like to know more about disability retirement income or would like to apply, we can help.  There is no need to establish an on the job injury for disability retirement, only that you cannot work at your job now.

It is also important for you to understand that the government has specific rules regarding amounts and entitlements from one program to another.  For instance, you can receive federal disability retirement benefits and a schedule award at the same time.  You cannot, however, receive wage loss benefits under workers’ compensation and a schedule award at the same time.

There are other instances when you can receive both types of benefits but offsets are involved. For instance, you may be entitled to receive disability retirement benefits at the same time that you receive social security disability.  The government, however, requires that there be a reduction in the amount that you receive in regard to either one or the other, depending on your circumstance.

If you have questions regarding any of the above benefits or of you need assistance, please contact us and we will direct you accordingly.
